A refuge between two eras
The renovation of a 17th-century apartment by Studio Tamat strikes a careful balance between respect for the building’s historic fabric and a contemporary design sensibility, transforming the space into a refined pied-à-terre in the heart of Rome.
Description
The historical heritage is expressed in the fully restored exposed brick ceilings, while the iron beams have been coloured to match the Microresina KK 112 flooring, a warm shade from the Desert Peach palette of Kerakoll Color Collection. The flooring itself becomes the connective tissue of the interior, linking the crisp, geometric volumes of the living area with the more fluid, sinuous lines of the bathroom, which traces the curve of the building’s communal staircase. The result is a space full of comfort and personality, where antique elements are enhanced by contrast and in alliance with its more minimalist and contemporary side.
