Respecting the past

Set within an ancient rural structure in the heart of the Umbrian countryside, Rocco Borromini’s project engages in a quiet dialogue with the landscape, never overpowering it.

Description

The intervention stems from a desire to preserve the memory of the place, introducing only a few, carefully measured elements of contrast. The choice of materials reflects this sense of continuity: local stone, reclaimed oak beams, and the existing volumes, rediscovered and enhanced. The space of the old barn has been clad — floors and walls alike — in Cementoresina in the grey tone KK 71, forming a unified surface that contrasts elegantly with the rough stone perimeter walls and aged wood. In the living area, a large fireplace, a kitchen with island, and brass accents compose a layered narrative of past and present.
The entire intervention leaves room for the silence of the landscape, gently echoed by a stone infinity pool that opens onto the rolling hills — as if it had always been there.
